In the light of the Christian faith, we seek to worship and glorify God as a theologically open Presbyterian church. We welcome freedom of thought and expression in understanding God’s Word and purpose for us. While honoring our diversity, our consecrated intention is to welcome, nurture, equip, and support all seekers as we prayerfully make our journey as the body of Christ.

Mission
The church acts for God in the world, using our resources to lift up those in need, promote healing, and spread joy. Central Presbyterian Church supports a wide range of services with its benevolent gifts, from the Christian Community Service Center here in Houston to worldwide service and outreach through such programs as One Great Hour of Sharing and Bread for the World. The congregation has long supported efforts to further the cause of peace and justice throughout the world.

Spiritual nurture
Our pastor since 2004 is the Rev. Howard Reed, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He leads worship each Sunday, conducts weddings and funerals, offers pastoral care in times of crisis and provides administrative leadership with the elected elders who serve on the Session (board). The life of the spirit needs nurture and strengthening and church members maintain a strong prayer network, offering spiritual support of those in need of prayer. In 2005, we completed a ‘labyrinth path’ on our grounds, which provides a place for spiritual reflection and a journey of prayer.  Our chapel is open each weekday for those who live and work in the area to take time for prayer and meditation in a quiet setting.
