About Us
Worship
Meeting together as the body of Christ is a crucial part of our faith. We worship each Sunday at 11:00 a.m., joining in scripture reading, prayer, music, reflection, and hearing the word of God through the pastor’s sermon. Once each month (usually the second Sunday) we celebrate the sacrament of Communion, to which all who have been baptized are welcome. Children are encouraged to participate in worship; there is usually a special children’s time in the first part of the service, after which younger children may leave for supervised activities. Our services are generally traditional, but we are open to different styles of worship and music, making use of the talents of our members.
Our History
Central Presbyterian Church has ministered in Houston for 110 years; our current location is the third since the original formation of the congregation. The church buildings and grounds were built in 1960 in the midst of a growing residential area. A careful look around the church will show the symbolism of the Bible and of Christian history that was built into our facility, from the statues of the Reformers in the courtyard to the beautiful stained glass window in the sanctuary. We have a long history of ministry, service, and mission in Houston, and we look forward to an exciting future as our city grows and changes.
Church Finance
The church is self-supporting by the gifts of the members. All financial information is fully reportable to the congregation and the congregation determines the pastor’s salary and benefits by open congregational vote each year. Because of our commitment to benevolent mission, we distribute a portion of all regular contributions to other service organizations both within and beyond the church.
