“Presbyterian” means “governed by elected elders.” In New Testament Greek, the word presbyteros, translates as “elder.” Presbyterian pastors and elders have been chosen by God through democratic action of the church members.
We are…
a global church proclaiming Christ’s message in the heart of Houston. We’re global because we have local members from many parts of the world. At Central Presbyterian Church, we relate directly to churches in other parts of the world, and serve people everywhere. We gather to worship God, to be nourished by Scripture and teaching, to support and nurture one another, and to offer service to others as Christ commanded. We welcome people from different backgrounds, different viewpoints, and different points on life’s faith journey. We want to share God’s love through worshipping, studying, playing, and working for the world together with one another, and with you.
We are a church grounded in the Reformed tradition of faith and guided by the Holy Spirit through a body of servant leaders (elders on the Session) who are elected by the congregation. The congregation also elects its pastor. This congregation is connected with the largest American Presbyterian Church, the PCUSA.
